If you work in a doctor’s office, hospital, or any sort of medical facility, chances are you might be a person who wears medical scrubs or nursing uniforms. With plain pants and tops, you get minimal say in fashion and there’s not much opportunity to stand out.

But wait. Who said boring ‘ol blue is your only option?

With a motto of “No nonsense. Dependable. There for the long haul.” Cherokee scrubs are trusted and favored among health care professionals. While they do come in the standard colors such as blue, magenta, and teal, they also are available in prints and some sports teams!

Flower fever? Got it. Animal print? Sure thing. Polks dots? Of course. Hello Kitty and Classic Betty Boop? Those too.

All the men out there are probably thinking none of this sounds appealing. We’re not done yet. We weren’t kidding when we said there are team scrubs. NBA, NFL, and MLB fans, you’re covered. These come in unisex, so men and women can both represent on game day (or any other day).

If a cardigan or snap front shirt is desired, they’re there. What about short sleeves, long sleeves, buttons, and zip ups? Check.

School Uniforms: An International Trend

Think back to those elementary school days and you may recall the implementation of classroom uniforms at your school. Boy’s uniforms and girl’s uniforms may have been clearly defined. All students appeared to look the same. Why, you may ask, was this system put into effect? Studies have been conducted that concur that the adoption of the school uniform may help the academic performance and improve the general behaviors of students who are required to wear them.One particular study took place in Kenya. For the project, Kenyan children who could not otherwise afford a classroom uniform were given one. Researchers determined that there was possibly a link between the poverty of these children experienced and the various stigmas which belittled the importance of school attendance. The academic performance and attendance was recorded before and after the study. According to the study, school absenteeism was reduced by 44%. Students who did not own a uniform prior to the study were reported to have an attendance reduction of 62%. In other areas of the world today, school uniforms are commonplace. There is a wide array of diverse nations that generally enforce school uniforms. Nations that enforce strict dress codes for students include Brazil, Burma, the Dominican Republic, India, Jamaica, Japan, Malaysia Singapore and Thailand. Nations such as Thailand insist that students wear uniforms from preschool all the way through college. Countries that allow students to be more causal and free in their attire include Canada, France and Italy. In France, classroom uniforms are not generally implemented because citizens have been allowed to be much more liberal in modern times. In the United States, it is common for students who attend private schools to wear uniforms. In public schools however, there are actually regulations which declare their students are not required follow a uniform policy. Most public schools in the U.S. declare that their students need not adopt a school uniform policy due to the fact that they encourage freedom of expression. However, there are some public schools that do strictly enforce uniforms, such as those in Massachusetts.
